About Us
Putney Montessori Childcare & Preschool
We are more than a childcare centre, we are a community where children and families feel supported, respected, and inspired.
We believe that children grow and thrive when they are supported not only as individuals, but within the many relationships and environments that surround them. Drawing on Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory, our philosophy reflects a deep respect for the people, places, and connections that shape children’s lives—from their families and educators to the wider community and society.
By nurturing these relationships, we create a safe and secure foundation for children to develop confidence, independence, and a love of learning. We view each child’s journey as unique and dynamic, and we support their development through play-based, intentional experiences that spark curiosity and build essential skills for school and beyond.

Our Values
At Putney Montessori, our values shape every part of the learning journey. They reflect who we are, what we believe in, and how we support children and families each day. Rooted in respect, inclusion, and community, our values guide our educators, inspire our programs, and ensure that every child feels safe, valued, and encouraged to thrive.
How Will Your Child Benefit?
Our Four Pillars
The heart of our practice is grounded in four key relationships, those with the child, the family, the community, and the educators. These pillars shape every aspect of our approach and reflect our belief that learning is most meaningful when it is built on connection, collaboration, and respect.
Through these relationships, we strive to create a nurturing and inspiring environment that supports each child’s growth and sense of belonging.

The Child

2
The Family
Recognised as a child’s first and most important teachers.
3
The Community
Fostering belonging through local connections and shared experiences.
4
The Educators
Professional, reflective guides who nurture each child’s growth.
The Child
We see every child as capable, competent, and full of potential. We support children as active participants in their learning by offering a rich, play-based environment that encourages exploration, decision-making, and creativity. Through warm relationships and thoughtful guidance, we promote children’s autonomy, emotional resilience, and critical thinking. These qualities form the building blocks of academic success and ensure that each child is well-prepared to transition into the next stage of their educational journey.
The Family
We recognise families as children’s first and most influential teachers, and we are honoured to be a part of their child’s learning story. We build strong, respectful partnerships with families, encouraging open communication and collaborative involvement in the life of the centre. By acknowledging the diverse cultures, experiences, and hopes that families bring, we create a space where everyone feels welcome and valued. This shared understanding helps children feel secure, connected, and confident.
The Community
We are proud to be part of a close-knit community where relationships and traditions are deeply valued. Our centre actively builds connections with local schools, organisations, and services to enrich children’s learning and sense of belonging. Through community walks, shared events, and intergenerational experiences, we help children understand their place in the world and nurture their growing identity as kind, capable, and contributing members of their community.
The Educators
Our educators are thoughtful, professional, and deeply committed to supporting every child’s development. We see ourselves as guides and facilitators who respond to children’s interests and extend their learning through purposeful experiences. By embedding early literacy, numeracy, and thinking skills into our daily program, we prepare children with the tools they need for formal schooling—while keeping their sense of wonder and agency at the heart of all we do. We are committed to reflective practice, ongoing learning, and building warm, consistent relationships with children and families.
Child Care Subsidy
Child Care Subsidy (CCS) is the payment made by Government, is the main payment to assist families with the costs of childcare. It is paid directly to the service and passed on to families as a fee reduction wherever families meet the criteria. How much you receive the CCS depends on your individual family’s circumstances.
